The La Sirena crew have done a great job considering their hands on DIY approach to design/build of their restaurants and they’ve made good choices from an design aesthetic and ‘green’ material choice perspective. They approached us with a desire to enhance the experience, add more sophisticated touch and improve in-store messaging. We’ve since worked through consult & design phase and recently installed an orientation signage solution which was successfully implemented and has had great response. We are currently working on a brand id piece which will serve to communicate key points such as their Eat Responsibly campaign, core values & beliefs such as their ‘zero waist while creating innovative food’, and ‘commitment to supporting sustainability’ . This implementation package will be accented by plaques highlighting features and sustainable alternative material choices throughout which will work synergistically to leave patrons with a comprehensive brand identity impression.
Martin Diedrich is a coffee connoisseur, considered to be one of the pioneers of the coffeehouse phenomenon. He has been a Master Roaster for over 21 years and is an internationally recognized coffee expert. Martin founded and built over 30 coffeehouses between 1984 and 1996 which were thriving creative hives and popular gathering places in their respective neighborhoods. His success led to Diedrich Coffee going public and in 2004 began to manifest a new vision: a state-of-the-art, cutting edge coffeehouse that would bring back the community feeling, coffee connoisseurship and a cultural atmosphere.
In December of 2005, Martin and Karen opened the doors of Kéan Coffee which has already developed a loyal following of customers with its high quality artisan coffees and they currently have 2 cafes. Shared social, environmental and global awareness and community oriented values and design sense led Kean Coffee to eVocal when they decided to refresh the cafe environments, evolve the design aesthetic and in the process establish a direction for future coffeehouses should the opportunity arise.
We have been working with Kean over the last year to begin to transform their environments… starting out in their Tustin location. We’ve collaborated with Martin and Karen and are beginning to bring their vision to life adding unique furniture, artistic fixtures and creative signage. The challenge has been to blend new elements within the existing design aesthetic in a tasteful yet impactful manor which we’ve been able to accomplish successfully. More to follow…
Reef was founded based around beach /ocean culture and outdoor lifestyle, their Reef Redemption campaign is all about an appreciation for the natural world, a commitment to preserving it and believe in responsible business practices. Reef was looking to revitalize their in-store brand image and was looking to develop a fresh new design aesthetic and interested in adopting a more ‘sustainable’ approach to an industry wide standard of ‘build, trash, re-build trash, trash re-build, trash, build… you get the picture! As fate would have it, we were introduced by our production partner based on our expertise in this area and put together a co-operative alliance which would enable us to successfully deliver on the brief. We worked through design consult phase, collaborating closely with Reef in house marketing team and art directors to submerse in the history of the brand, gain an understanding of their vision and roadmap forward. This is an integral aspect in the development process enabling us to tailor our solution by extracting key communication points to package up their campaign effectively and ensure constancy throughout.
Once we had identified the need and devised our strategy, we solidified the partnerships required to execute and went to it. Our core network of a material vendors (specializing in ‘eco’ alternatives), sub contractors (artists & artisans of all mediums) and production partners (domestic alternatives) enables us to offer ‘local sustainable’ implementation solutions that set us apart.
We worked through an approval process and established a signature pallet of materials, design features and treatments. We then proceeded to apply our formula to all aspects of entire in-store program from POP signage, to fixtures, to shop-in-shop, pop-up and stand alone retail concepts which is all showcased in their trade-show booth presentation. Reef’s cohesive brand image objectives have been met and the in-store program is working synergistically with their ’premium surf travel’ campaign. The results of this effort are clearly apparent, the Reef ‘in-store revitalization has been well received industry wide and has stirred the desired response on a consumer level. With a ‘brand guide bible’ in place for all to reference as the program rolls out nationally and internationally the true testament of this effort and continued return on investment is still to come.
